The Route

Riding through more than six thousand kilometres of the most dramatic scenery on the planet, as a group we are travelling through six countries, across seas, fjords, mountains, valleys, huge bridges and long tunnels this expedition is no walk in the park. For fourteen days we will be riding an average of six to eight hours per day on fully loaded motorcycles. We will be riding along unfamiliar roads across wild and wonderful landscapes full of wonder and potential dangers.

Paul will leave Ireland on the 20th May taking the ferry to England. On 21st May he will meet up with Roy on route in Preston and head down across the north of England until they reach Cambridge which is were I will meet them. From there we will head down to Harwich to the DFDS ferry terminal where we will take the 17:45 Sirena Seaways ferry to Esbjerg in Denmark, an 18 hour journey across the North Sea. Arriving on the 22nd May at 13:00 we will then head to Jayderup where we will meet up with Gregg who will have arrived from the USA and hopefully picked up his hire motorcycle.

On the 23rd we will head off on the main part of the journey, the exact route will be detailed below, however the general plan is to head east from Denmark into Sweden, then north through Sweden, then across into Norway with the northern most point being Narvik. If weather permits and the riders are fit and healthy by this point there is an opportunity to then ride up to Tromso. The route will then head south through Norway, likely to be the most dramatic and difficult part of the journey.

The goal is to be back in Esbjerg for the 5th June when the return ferry back to Harwich will leave at 18:45 arriving in Harwich at 12:00 on the 6th June. On arrival the remaining riders will ride to Portmadog in north Wales to meet up with the Dander4Dosh team where a celebration beer and well earned rest will follow!

Details of specific places we intend to visit will be added, however it has already been decided that we will visit Hell in Norway for the obvious photo opportunities! Also Middlefart in Denmark will be passed on the way through! We will cross the “Great Belt Fixed Link”  from Denmark to Sweden, the bridge includes the 3rd longest main span at 1.2km, the longest outside Asia!

Provisional Route as of 01/05/2014, still being finalised. Total distance so far 6814km and does not include the additional distances covered on the ferry crossings. It also doesn’t cover the approximately 6000km Gregg will travel getting to Denmark from the USA!
